Intermodal Network Update for Friday, February 16, 2024

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Our network operating teams are focused on improving service performance following a challenging start to the month of February. As reported, on Monday, a train derailed near Hazelton, Kansas, approximately 80 miles southwest of Wichita, which caused traffic delays along our Southern Transcon on the Panhandle Subdivision located between Amarillo, Texas and Wellington, Kansas. BNSF crews moved quickly and restored both main lines to service in less than 36 hours.

Service across the network is recovering quickly, thanks to the efforts of our operating teams. Though lower than the prior week, average car velocity increased compared to the prior month. Our local service compliance measure, which reflects our timeliness in handling carload freight, has improved versus both last week and the previous month.

INTERMODAL UPDATE
BNSF teams continue recovery efforts at some of our key inland intermodal facilities, including at Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC), where we are no longer utilizing the off-site lot and inventory levels at the facility have stabilized.

Our teams are continuing to address congestion issues at our Memphis intermodal facility in Tennessee and our Willow Springs intermodal facility in Chicago. At Memphis, we have resumed limited operations at our Harvard facility northwest of Memphis in Marion, Arkansas, as well as adding additional workforce during nights and weekends, to assist with demand and increase capacity following impacts from winter weather.

In Chicago, our Willow Springs facility faced inbound challenges earlier this week following the mainline derailment mentioned above. At this time, there are no containers or trailers off-spot and trains are departing on time from the facility.

We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of both of these facilities as our teams work around the clock to address these challenges.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
Much of the network will experience favorable operating conditions to begin the week, and we expect to continue building on positive momentum heading into next week. However, an active weather pattern affecting areas in Northern California will bring accumulating snow as high winds and rain impact the California coastline through the weekend. BNSF teams will monitor the systems and are prepared and ready to respond quickly to any service disruptions.
