UPDATE: Monitoring Impacts from Tropical Storm Hilary

Hurricane Hilary is now a tropical storm moving north over California and into Nevada. Thanks to the hard work of BNSF teams who pre-positioned track equipment and supplies, including generators, fuel tanks, and ballast, in advance of the storm to aid in service response and recovery efforts, we were able to protect our infrastructure and operations. BNSF intermodal facilities in the Greater Los Angeles area are fully operational, and there are no impacts at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Flash flood warnings that are in effect across multiple subdivisions in Southern California should expire as the storm moves out of the area this afternoon. BNSF’s 24-hour command center will continue to closely monitor for any weather-related impacts and respond to and restore rail operations as needed.

Union Pacific’s Mojave Subdivision, over which BNSF operates between Bakersfield, CA, and Mojave, is out of service due to severe flooding. BNSF crews are on the scene to assist Union Pacific in track restoration. There is currently no estimate on when this subdivision will re-open to traffic. Customers with shipments moving to/from Northern California should expect delays through this corridor until service is restored.
